Hey there everyone,

This week I would like to share with you a story of a conversation I had with my father when I was a teenager. I come from a family of talkers and we never seemed to run out of things to say.

On this occasion my dad and I were having a chat about life and what it all means. Nothing too serious, just two guys making observations about the world around them. At one point he turned to me and asked me to think about all of the people in the history of time that had died for senseless reasons. He told me to think about people who had died fighting wars they didn’t want to go to, Jewish people who died in the holocaust, the little girl hit by the drunk driver, Ethiopians that had starved to death during the great famine, the person in London who stood beside the car bomb set off by the IRA, the guy in the wrong place at the wrong time in the drive by shooting and the family lost in the earthquake or the tornado or the mudslide or the tsunami.

After making sure that I had pictured their faces and the sad circumstances of being removed from this world, he said something that I will never forget for the rest of my life. He said that if I didn’t live my life to the fullest for the fact that I’m here, alive and breathing then at least do it for those who never had the chance.

I encourage you to do the same.

Much love,

Stuart

Hey there,

I encourage all people reading these words to pass this along to the good people of America so they can help their youth gain an understanding of the world they live in as opposed to the Hollywood story they think they are starring in.

I sit here at my computer ready to write an article about American youth, and based on past experience, I can guarantee that I am about to offend people. However, past experience has also proven to me that the people I am about to offend are ignorant of the truth, since what I am about to say is based on fact. Therefore, to be offended by what I am about to say is to be ignorant of the facts. So, if any American is offended by what I am about to say, please take the time to know the facts before you call your government and suggest they deploy a “peace keeping” unit equipped with uranium depleted missiles to blow up my house. By the way, I have already tested your knowledge of the facts by referring to Uranium Depleted Missiles. Some people read that line and chuckled because they knew the true meaning behind my sarcastic remark. If you find yourself missing the specificity of that joke then you really do need to pay attention to your knowledge of that which offends you as you read.

Who am I? I’m a 37 year old man living in the city of Toronto. I own a company that produces motivation presentations for a wide range of audiences ranging from the corporate crowd to high school students. Yes, I’m one of those bleeding hearts who decided to throw his business degree out the window and make the world a better place. Am I accomplishing this goal? If you exclude ex-girlfriends, I would say I’m making a dent. Above all else, I have an interest in politics. I’m not an expert, but I do remember things like Madeleine Albright quietly apologizing to Kuwait for encouraging Iraq to invade them, Boutros Boutros Ghali not being chosen as the head of the U.N. because the USA didn’t like him and the KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army) being ranked in the top ten on the CIA hit list only to be removed two weeks before Bill Clinton bombed Serbia on their behalf. So let’s just say I have a general understanding of what’s going on.

I’m writing this article because I woke up to the news on my radio this morning and heard a report about Barack Obama’s appearance on MTV last night and how he was ridiculed by the American youth for doing a poor job. Young people accused him of things such as not turning the economy around fast enough, not creating enough jobs, not having new laws in place that would help improve the country and not personally winning the world series by playing all positions at the same time. Ok, maybe they didn’t complain about that last one, but based on their unrealistic gripes they might as well have.

I couldn’t help but feel enraged when I heard all of these young people blaming Barack for not solving all of their problems in less than two years. Yes, Mr. Obama came into power on November 5, 2008 and I like to believe that he spent the first couple of days setting up his office and finding out where the bathroom was. So why was I angry? I was mainly angered because once again it was another clear example of how out of touch the next generation of Americans are and I fear that this lack of understanding and ignorance will one day negatively affect my own life and that of the children I someday wish to have. It’s for that reason I chose to speak out today.

Where do these young people get these ideas? It certainly isn’t from school because the last time I checked, American youth rank 25th in math and 21st in science among 30 developed countries. It certainly isn’t from television unless the most recent bachelor chose his future wife through a series of political skill testing questions. And it certainly isn’t from the world of music unless Eminem stopped talking about his miraculous defeat of drug addiction long enough to explain the length of time it takes for a bill to be passed into law. This only leaves one logical possibility. McDonalds! That’s where they must have got the idea. They walk into McDonalds and order a Big Mac and within seconds they are ingesting processed meat and sugar infused buns. And if McDonald’s can do it then so can Obama right?

This must be how they think the world works. They must think that one guy can walk into the kitchen, light up the deep fryer, flip a few patties and pull the world’s biggest economy out of the trash all before The Hills comes on at 8pm. To these ignorant youth, please take a moment to consider a few thoughts and comments from a regular dude in Toronto.

1. Why aren’t you protesting at the ground zero site where the two world trade towers collapsed in September of 2001? Aren’t you upset by that? Those guys and gals have been working non stop for nine full years and still haven’t rebuilt that site yet. Actually they are projecting that they won’t be finished until 2014. That’s thirteen years! Doesn’t that make you angry? That’s one small plot of land compared to the size of the entire country. Surely hundreds of people working down there should have had those towers back up within a couple of weeks right? It’s like raising a barn in the old days isn’t it? Why aren’t you mad at those workers? Instead you are compassionate, knowing that rebuilding that part of NYC takes time and consideration. Unfortunately, you see rebuilding an economy that generates and GDP of approximately 15 trillion dollars a year as a much easier task than rebuilding a few blocks in a big city. So damn that Barack Obama guy for not solving that problem in less than two years! And what about other examples, like hmmmm your own debt? How long does it take the average American to pay off their student debt? Statistics vary, but on average a student in America graduates with about $20 000 in debt and on average it takes over ten years to pay off that debt. Now let’s take a look at the U.S. debt. It currently stands at around 14 trillion dollars. How do students who take about 10 years to pay off $20 000 in debt get mad at a guy who hasn’t solved the financial woes of a country in less than two years when that country owes 14 trillion dollars? You may want to take a look at your last credit card statement before you start throwing stones.

2. How much does it cost to drop a bomb? Well, I don’t have those exact statistics for you, but I can tell you that the current cost of the Iraqi war is around 737 billion dollars and the price of the war in Afghanistan is about 355 Billion. Add those up and you get about 1 trillion dollars. There you go. In one article I just solved 7% of your national debt. Since you clearly plan on ousting Barack in the next election, and with my mathematical prowess, you should elect me as you next president! And while we’re on the whole bomb throwing thing do you need me to remind you of places like Vietnam, Panama, Serbia, Guatemala, Cambodia, Lebanon, Grenada, Libya, Nicaragua, Iran, Somalia, Sudan, etc. These are just a few countries that the U.S. has decided to bomb since the second world war. The list is actually twice as long. Can you even fathom how much that must have cost your country? Can you imagine how that kind of spending over a long period of time may have contributed to your current economic crisis? Barack Obama was in diapers for some of those bombing campaigns and yet you somehow hold him responsible for the aftermath of decisions that were made by men who didn’t even know his name at the time they made them.

3. What do you think George Bush Senior and Junior are doing right now? Let me answer this rhetorical question for you. They are doing something I like to call the chuckle. It’s not a belly laugh, but more of a knowing shake of the diaphragm when someone sees another person being blamed for a mistake they made. I find it hilarious that the young people of America hold Barack Obama responsible for something he wasn’t even consulted on. To get an idea of what this might feel like, imagine being blamed for for the collapse of the Roman Empire. Wouldn’t there be a little voice going off in the back of your mind saying, “WTF?”

4. Without checking google, who are the leaders of Canada, Great Britain, Pakistan, India, France and China? Ok, I’ll make it easier for you. Who are the leaders of the bordering states around the current state you sit in, while reading these words? Ok, I’ll make it easier for you. Who is the leader of your own state? Most of you don’t know the answer to any of these questions do you? Don’t worry, I’m not calling you stupid, I’m simply thinking it. More specifically I’m wondering how you get off pontificating about a job a man is doing when you know nothing about that man’s job? I don’t know about you, but I rarely find myself having the urge to tell a bunch of bird watchers that they are holding the binoculars incorrectly. That’s because I don’t know anything about it. And you can be sure that even if I experienced one bird watching expedition, I wouldn’t consider myself an expert. So, to the youth of America who speak out on politics on shows aired by MTV, please stop commenting on things you no nothing about because CNN is constantly in need of inaccurate sound bites so they can sway popular opinion.

5. On average how long does it take for an American law to come into affect? Well, there isn’t one specific answer that I can provide to this question, but I do know that it is directly influenced by the number of children sitting in congress. Do you remember being a child and saying no to your mother when she asked you if you wanted to go to the park? The truth is that you really wanted to go to the park, but you knew that if you didn’t go that meant your brother didn’t get to go and your real motivation was to screw your brother. Welcome to the world of politics that we all live in and America has the biggest sandbox of them all. I swear that Barack could go to the Republicans and say, “Hey, I’ve got this great bill that says all Republicans should receive lifetime massages paid for by the American people.” and they would argue against it just because it came from the Democrats. With that said, I encourage the youth of America to bring the Republicans onto MTV and ask them if they think their only job after being voted into power was to take power away from those who currently have more power than them.

Listen folks, here’s what I do know. The majority of Americans are incredible people who would give those less fortunate than them the shirt off their back. Unfortunately, the majority of Americans are unaware of the fact that they live in a country where far too many filthy rich people have more shirts than they know what to do with, but still want yours. Your economy isn’t in a bad situation at all. It isn’t sinking and it isn’t facing hard times. Your economy is royally FU*%ED! And unless you come to terms with this, you soon will be too. India and China are sitting on the sidelines right now like lions waiting for the weakest to stray far enough away from the pack so they can pounce. And you can tell me that I’m wrong and you can say that documentaries like The Corporation, Capitalism: A Love Story or I.O.U.S.A. are edited to make things look worse than they are. It’s like a bad relationship. You can tell yourself that everything is fine, but eventually you will have no other choice but to do something about it. And thousands of people just like me are writing about this every day hoping that enough people will take heed to these words before it’s too late.

Barack Obama is not your problem, but our western culture (and I include Canada in this) often looks for a scapegoat when things go to crap. We constantly want to blame our husband, friend, company and country when things go badly and it never gets us to where we want to go. You embarrass yourselves when you blame one man for the problems of an entire nation and you insult yourself when you say that only he needs to fix them. Who are you? I thought you were the youth of America. I thought you were the ones that recently ranked highest in the world in the category of confidence. Why don’t you take that confidence and instead of blaming Barack Obama, give him a call and ask how you can help? Tell him that you are a young American with a brain and two hands that can lift people out of the dirt and stop greedy CEO’s from stealing your money. Tell him that you are equally dissatisfied with the current state of affairs of your country and that you want to help him with his vision of change. You voted for a guy that ran on a platform that said, “Yes we can!” It’s time for you to recognize that YOU were apart of that WE he was talking about.

Stop going on shows trying to boost their ratings by having you say bad things about your leader. Stop deliberately sabotaging your own success. Stop talking about things you know nothing about and instead start learning about those topics.

More importantly, start acting like the great country that you once were. Start showing the rest of the world that you are more than a bunch of people that send innocent victims into conflicts that only benefit the elite. Start demanding better education in your schools. Start telling your news agencies to tell the truth. Start standing up for what you truly deserve by standing beside the very people that are trying to help you get it.

And to the American youth, start being the people you think you already are.

Much love,

Stuart

I’m sure many of you know that past American president, George Bush, launched his new book today entitled “Decision Points”. Many of you may not know that his original title was going to be “Bad Decision Points – I beat my high score”, but his publicist was worried that people may confuse it as a book describing his pac-man battles with Dick Cheney in the oval office.

So, like every smart author, George W Bush will be travelling the TV circuit today promoting something he probably didn’t even write. He’s even going to be on Oprah! I hope she doesn’t ask him to donate anything to her big Christmas giveaway show that’s coming up soon. I highly doubt the audience would know what to do with weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

Hold on wait! George Bush couldn’t donate WMD’s because George Bush doesn’t have any! He used to control his own stockpile of WMD’s when he was president, but he doesn’t hold that position anymore. So, where would he get them? If you asked him that question about ten years ago he would tell you that he’s heading into Iraq to grab some WMD’s but that highly sophisticated easter egg hunt certainly didn’t turn up any chocolate now did it?

Which brings me to the point that I’d like to make today. What does it take for our society to hold people accountable? Not just politicians, but everybody! George Bush once told the world that he was absolutely convinced that Iraq has WMD’s. He was so convinced that he was willing to put his fellow American citizens lives on the line to prove it. In the process, he is responsible for thousands of dead Americans and hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqi civilians. if you even take one hour out of your life to do some research, which means you will have to take a short break from stalking your friends on facebook, you will discover that invading Iraq under the pretence of finding WMD’s is one of the biggest lies ever told to the American people.

And instead of sitting in a jail cell feeling guilty for his sins, he will spend the week laughing with journalists who are too afraid to ask him the type of questions that millions of Americans want him to be asked. In short, George Bush will never be held accountable for his actions. I recognize a few Christians disagree with that point, but you get the idea of what I’m trying to say. We live in a world where countries, including my own, will throw people in jail for uttering death threats and yet we celebrate the lives of those who actually carry out the killings.

But let’s not put it all on George Bush. Let’s not forget Bill Clinton. Here’s a guy that stood up with his hand on the bible and swore an oath to uphold the values of the American people. I don’t think Bill’s sweat had even evaporated from the golden book before he was upholding those American values in the bed of a woman who’s name definitely wasn’t Hilary. I personally know someone that was at a dinner party with Bill Clinton after the Monica Lewinsky trail who told me that he was rubbing a young woman’s leg under the table, while her husband (a big contributor to his earlier campaigns) sat a few spaces down. And instead of being outraged by a guy like this, people line up to hear him speak at functions where he gets one hundred thousand dollars for a 90 minute keynote. Preach to me Bill! Teach me how to lie and get away with it! Tax season is just around the corner and I’m desperate!

And the list is endless. We listen to Christian Bale on Youtube as he goes into an ego infused fury over a simple mistake made by a colleague and then run out to the theatre to put money in his pocket as we watch his next film. We watch the news and act horrified as a hockey player takes a cheap shot at another player and ends their career only to cheer for them a couple of years later when they are reinstated into the league. We see police officers blatantly abuse their power and then continue to trust them after the force gives them their gun and badge back. We watch certain teachers run out of the school at 3pm and then reward them with job security and big pensions. And the list is endless.

We have become a society that has lost its regard for accountability. Do you hold that boss accountable when he keeps saying that the unfair workload will end soon, but doesn’t? Do you hold that partner accountable when they tell you that they are going to change but don’t? Do you hold that friend accountable when they say they love you, but then talk badly about your character behind your back? Do you hold that company accountable for services they promised but never delivered?

If we don’t hold people accountable to a higher standard then how can we expect to increase the standard of our lives? They say that when it comes to life you get out what you put in. I think it’s more accurate to say that you get out what you put up with.

Much love,
